The legend of the Blarney Stone: |
As England was establishing its hold on Ireland's provinces, Cormac MacCarthy, lord of Blarney, used his wit and flattery of Queen Elizabeth I to postpone her eventual confiscation of this property. The Queen was long frustrated by Blarney's ability to delay her assumption of power here. Legend has it that kissing a stone perched high in the castle's parapet will bestow on the kisser the gift of gab so successfully employed by MacCarthy. And yes, we both kissed the stone. Watch out Queen Elizabeth!
