The Porch Boys Announce Their New Lineup

March 1995

Local acoustic rock group, the Porch Boys, have a new lineup. Musical brothers Don and Tim Greiner had been working with the Crowded until January '95, when the band unexpectedly split up. But rather than mourn the end of one of Maryland's best classic and hard rock outfits, Don and Tim focused their energy on their long-term project, the Porch Boys.

The Crowded's drummer, Ray Biba, also decided to become a Porch Boy after the split. During an exceptionally slow night at Coconut Alley in Frederick, the Crowded decided to give their last set to Tim and Don, just for grins. For the next 30 minutes, Tim and Don did their usual thing, and Ray backed them up on his kit. The few patrons that were there, bored by the obligatory loud rock of the Crowded, came alive to the Porch Boys' laid back performance. Ray needed no more convincing.

"The Porch Boys have actually been around for more than 10 years. We just never gave it a name until recently," said singer Tim Greiner, referring to the hundreds of backyard parties he and his brother have performed at. "Having the full band allows us to take that laid back feeling into clubs and restaurants, too."

The new lineup includes lead vocalist Tim Greiner, guitarist/vocalist Don Greiner, percussionist Ray Biba and bassist/guitarist Chris Hubbard.
