Doc's Place Grand Opening Saved at the Last Minute!

November 7, 1994
Doc's Place held their Grand Opening on Friday, November 4, almost without entertainment. According to the bar's booking manager, Danny "Taco" Campanaro, the well-known regional disc jockey they hired canceled at the last minute, and neither Danny nor agent Diana Stagnato of Cellar Door Entertainment could find an act to cover the engagement.

Diana contacted the Crowded less than 2 hours before the band was scheduled to set up for their performance at Belles' Pit Beef and Ale Haus as openers for The Roadducks. Knowing it was physically impossible to pack up the band's PA, set it up at Doc's Place, and still make it to Belles' in time to load in and perform, the Crowded had to decline.

But while waiting to go on at Belles', the band members decided to try calling sound companies to see if they could find one that could get to Doc's Place and set up while the Crowded warmed up the Roadducks audience. They found one.

Express Sound of Gaithersburg came through in the clutch, arriving at Doc's in just enough time to get the PA ready for when the band's gear arrived. The Crowded and crew broke down their gear; packed it into the van; and made it, sweaty, pumped, and in record time, to Doc's Place, where they rocked the entertainment-thirsty Grand Opening crowd into a state of musical euphoria.

When questioned about their amazing super powers, members of the Crowded said, simply, "Aw shucks!"

Look for the Crowded at Belles', Doc's Place, and other fine mid-Atlantic venues in the future.
